No Outlet

Updated: Sep 28, 2023

I sometimes forget that we as Christians are in a spiritual battle, daily. What is before me is not what is BE-FORE me…Jesus is. We receive numerous amounts of reminders (“God-Winks” I call them) and crystal, clear instructions from the bible on how we are to rest. I have heard this evangelical message preached from umpteen sermons and discussed on various platforms but just could not grasp what resting in the finished works of what God has already done truly means. I’m still not a pro at it but what I do know for sure is that when facing the inevitable and I choose to converse with God instead of my bestie or when I open the Bible and glean off what is being said as opposed to opening up my mouth, that peace truly transcends.

When I choose Him over how I feel, one phrase comes to my mind…NO OUTLET. When driving in your car and you approach a sign that reads NO OUTLET the understanding is that there are no other roads that can lead you out of where you have ended up. NO OUTLET to living and operating in how I feel versus what has been laid out for us so amazingly in the Word of God. There are many roads, streets, and highways that we could take to “Emotional Road”, “I’m Right Drive” or how about “What About Me Circle?” It is so easy to travel those roads of feelings but where do you end up? Feelings come and go, like the wind. Therefore we cannot put our trust in them.

I have determined in my heart, soul, body and mind that there is NO OUTLET for me other than the Word of God. NO OUTLET to “Pitiful Patty” and “Sing the Same Song Sally.” It’s the joy of the Lord who gives us the strength that we need in the midst of what we go through. NO OUTLET to living differently publicly than what I do privately for a double minded man is unstable in all of his ways.

Just as I choose to place my two feet on the ground as He wakes me in the morning and I lift up my hands to say Hallelujah and thank you for keeping me in my right state of mind, I now choose in my heart NO OUTLET unless it’s the road that leads me to God.

Luke 9:23
